Experimenting with Jazz Vocal Styles
In this workshop, we’ll take a deep dive into different styles and musical vocabularies by listening to jazz vocal recordings, analyzing what we hear, and developing the ability to be more intentional about how we interpret a song. The first half of the workshop will consist of active listening and discussion, the objective being to analyze functional elements of vocal expression and find something new to try in our own practice. The second half of the workshop will be devoted to vocal function, including exercises that will facilitate various stylistic elements in the context of healthy vocal technique and making the most of your instrument.
